Foreign currency transactions charged as GBP at ATMs etc?
On a recent trip abroad I was offered the option at a shop and at an ATM to have my transaction debited to my account in GBP rather than Euro
This gets confusing as you need to figure in the bank rate you are being offered at that time vs the rate your bank might offer and any foreign transaction fee your bank may charge. That factored against the size of the transaction if they are making money rate-wise. If I had taken the option, would my bank then not charge me a foreign transcation fee? I guess not as its GBP, although I wasnt sure as its still a foreign bank Also I guess it depends on the rate the foreign bank offers to do that, which may be less favourable. Any bankers out there got any insight into this? Seems to be catching on. |
