I have no idea of the relative merits and demerits of SV650 vs SV1000 - I was the tightwad looking for a bargain (as I always am to add to my bike collection). If mark h got 2 grand for his bike then he did well, I’ve just watched this nice bike sell at £1500:

I think I’ll look for a SV1000 at the end of the summer when I’ve finished my bike garage project (and can fit another 3 or 4 bikes in), I doubt that I’ll have to pay much over a grand (which is fine - maybe less).

Cheap bikes are such fun.

Got replaced - for cosmetic purposes. I'm a fickle f*cker. A revalve would have them outperforming any GSXR forks of that era, easily.

Look, you own a 650, I guess - your butthurt is clear.

Thing is, I'm guessing Mark's bike probably wasn't covered in fork and engine case pitting like the efforts you shared. You do kind of get what you pay for. I laid out £2750 for mine, it had sub 8000 miles and had never been used in winter. So everything was mark and rust free. The two you've shared look like they've lived an outdoor life - hence the price. Just depends on how picky you are about looks.

Maybe, and maybe not. Perhaps I buy a bike like yours for £900 in November

You can have the forks for £900, the rest you can have for an additional £2000. How's that?

Always the case, buddy. People get butthurt that their bike isn't the best version available and repeat what they've read elsewhere, from someone else who's only read something elsewhere - it's not very often that people like you and I (who've owned every possible variety) can actually lay down some facts.

It's this simple: The thou is superior to the six'fiddy. In every conceivable way. It's even cheaper to insure!

Don't reignite that old one, otherwise this thread will go on for months!

The 650 and the 1000 are both cheap and cheerful bikes within their own market sectors, that is all.

Thou is much much better than the 650 in every way. I've had both. Anyone who recons it's too lumbering needs to learn how to corner correctly. Oh and take the steering damper off.

Had my thou for 12 years. Loved it. The only reason I got rid was I needed something with better luggage and pillion provision so got myself a multistrada which is a whole different kettle of ball games although I'm sure Othen can get one of those for a tenner too.

Most 650 riders have never actually ridden a Thou in anger so use their google-fu as the basis of unfounded fact.
