Default A video for a snowy Sunday

As it's such lovely biking weather here's the 1989 Snetterton 'Race of Aces,' with the cream of the UK riders at the time on the best 750 superbikes: GSXR750s, FZR750s and Honda RC30s.

Oh, and the two JPS Norton rotaries, which were built in a shed. Of course, they're only 588cc (depending how you measure capacity, of course ).

I saw the Nortons race that year at Snetterton. Somewhere I have a picture of Trevor Nation's bike with a winners garland on it from after the race. As he was a spectator at the Race of Aces I must have gone to an earlier meeting.

I just watched the video. Wierdly, at the point that the Norton streaked down the back straight, I realised that I had watched this program when it was first broadcast.

The speed / power difference is amazing, it must have p*ssed the other riders off enormously. The Nortons seem to be a good 20mph faster at the top end.

It's reckoned the 1989 bikes were good for 140bhp at the gearbox sprocket, which is a bit more than the Japanese proddy 750s at the time
