Is 1 meg OK for surfing?
My interweb speed has crept up from 6 meg to 76 meg in the last couple of years, though my experience isn't any different.
I'm looking at moving to the wilderness, and from the postcodes the few places that get interweb can expect about 1 meg. I only really want enough to use SV650, ebay, amazon and websites for banking etc - not bothered about utube, iplayer ect. Anyone on a low speed or experience of one tell me what its like? |

Re: Is 1 meg OK for surfing?
Depends.
A smooth properly working 1meg connection will be fine for basic surfing, a little slower than you're used to but manageable. The problem is if you get any sorts of line or internal wiring issues that 1meg connection really can't handle the errors, it has a massive effect since it's not got the bandwidth to easily resend data that's already come through corrupted. |

If hypothethically 1mbs isn't enough would that stop you moving to that postcode/area?

Re: Is 1 meg OK for surfing?
Spank has it. With streaming low-weight traffic like web surfing it's more the latency from the quality of the line than overall speed that's really important.

Re: Is 1 meg OK for surfing?
hmm, you can get mobile boosters like vodafones sure signal but they rely on your broadband connection so that's not ideal if you're down to 1meg.

Mobile phones don't work in the valleys. Land that technology forgot.
