Best insurers for mods?
Ive started to look at insurance prices for my gsxr600 that ill be able to ride come august and im struggling to find an insurer to cover me for all my mods. I can get insured for around £600 (which is less than i had anticipated) if i list these mods:
Braided Hose Exhaust - No performance increase Upgraded Air Filter Change of Rear Sets Heated Grips However, the bike also has a rear seat cowl which takes the insurance to £1900?!?! And to top it all off if i list that it has an aftermarket paintjob im uninsurable, at least of go compare anyway. So anyone have any companies that may be able to sort me out cover for the whole bike, or shall i just pretend i dont have the paintjob n seat cowl? Cheerrrs |

Best insurers for mods?
http://www.mceinsurance.com/
Their homepage says they guarentee to insure and bike any modification any age. Worth a shot? Also http://www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk/ say they guarantee to beat any quote so they may be worth a call afterwards Good luck |

Re: Best insurers for mods?
Yer the £590 quote is with mce. Whats everyones thoughts on just not disclosing the paintwork and cowl? the bike comes with a cowl as standard so really im guessing that isnt a mod anyway?

I've had no issues declaring mods with Swintons (not the best neither) but with the insurance, only declare items that will give a performance gain over stock (IIRC 5% above the manufacturers stated BHP). Most insurers will only take note of Supension changes (if their significant) exhausts and custom bodywork. Braided hoses are a replacement part (its common practice to' as OEM hoses cost silly money) and don't affect the performance*. Cowls would normally be a noted addition (if they even list it!) *To be really anal about it they're a safety improvement technically as the brakes act with less force needing to be applied

Re: Best insurers for mods?
Unfortunately i dont seem to have much choice as theres no way im paying over £1000! Its just silly money. Would i be risking a payout by not declaring a paint job? I have a complete set of standard fairings i could put on but i see no reason why the bodywork should increase insurance if it hasnt increased value?

Ring an insurer and get them to do the quote as it was with standard and one with the custom bodywork. Carole Nash are really good with that, did it when i looked at a few upgrade options on the SV

Re: Best insurers for mods?
I had the same problem as mentioned in another thread.. crash bungs, stickers, screen, cowl and breathing on it counts as a mod.
Pretty much 2+ mods ended up adding a fair bit to the premium. I went with carole nash but on these things its worth while calling up and they will speak to an underwriter to get you a competitive quote
