Re: 110 miles on MT09SP

The gearbox works well on brisk acceleration but is clunky through town or at low speeds (up and down). All in all, it's a bike that has only been 90% developed (imho). Quote:
Handing the bike back isn't an option just because it doesn't suit me. I've emailed a few Kawa dealers to see if there are any green Z900RS available nationwide to trade it. I've now done 630 miles and the first service is 2 weeks away, so I'll be back enjoying the SV.

Re: 110 miles on MT09SP
fast compression adjusters are for square edge bumps like rumble strips when the wheel hits the front edge of the bump, the valve opens up to let the wheel travel faster in an upwards movement then closes again when the pressure is lost and returns to the slow compression adjusters. you wont feel much of a difference in day to day riding until you hit a square edge bump. the valving shim stack plays a larger role though.
there is a more common evil though and thats the rebound being too slow which allows the front/rear to 'dive' into pot holes at which point the fast compression cant keep up when hitting the square edge. both these things will send a shock wave to the riders spine. even with fast dampening clickers (which only really work in a very narrow band) then you must alter the shim stack. same goes for the slow/mid dampening. its a very fine line between the valving/shim stack working and the bypass/clickers working. the shim stack has to stay pretty much closed till its required and let the clickers do their job. it also takes a knowledgeable rider to know whats wrong so they can get the stack altered or a very good suspension specialist to take an educated guess. most people are happy with what they get and never turn any clicker in fear of mucking things up, which i always laugh at. |
