There should be an F key to press before that point to load additional drivers, but you'd need to find them for your specific drive.

Which annoyingly LG don't list on their website.

There's supposed to be a way to download a Win10 iso file if you have a legitimate Windows key using the Windows media creation tool from Microsoft.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/soft...load/windows10
The idea being you can load it onto a usb stick (I think 6Gb is sufficient) and install from that. You might need rufus software to make it bootable (which can be fun all by itself). I couldn't get it to work because at the time there was a bug that prevented it from accepting an OEM Win10 version (as opposed to a retail Win10 version).

Maybe it's working now (I last tried 8 months ago).

I'm just wondering what your recommendations for back up/restore software would be? Looking at going down the laptop route as I like the portability idea. I don't play all of the latest games and I would like to have some space back under my desk. I just want to be able restore the system should I have another failure like this.

Simply image the disk as is, nice clean build - Macrium

Drop any data you really don't want to lose post image on a USB drive or an external drive, cloud storage too if you are paranoid.

Thanks for that. My experience of back ups is usually pulling files off drives where the os is dead. Really need to work on a back up schedule. The laptop I'm looking at will have the os on the ssd and I was thinking of putting the programs on the separate internal hd. Is there any performance penalties to doing this or should I have the programs on the ssd?

I run the OS from my C drive, and store an run my programs on my D drive. C drive is an SSD, and I don't notice any lag

Whats the crack with defragging and SSDs? I've not had one before but have read that its best not to defrag it. Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a USB dvd drive? I have seen some from LG and ASUS but they are only USB 2, whereas some off brand ones are all pretty much USB 3.

Yep, no need to defrag never done any of mine.

You can also turn off other stuff to save on clogging up with stuff or move it to your storage hdd. Paging file is one I think, but don't quote me.

I use Windir stat to scan my C drive ssd for big files, and either delete or move ones to another drive, as I'm only using a 120gb see for my C drive. Keeps it around 60gb of free space. I've another 3tb to save all the other files on my desk top

The laptop I have coming has a 256gb SSD and a 1tb drive installed. I may upgrade that to a 2tb at some point due to the amount of film scanning I do.
