All going well until... stuck f$&$%&g b@£$@£$d M3 bolt on one of the throttle body clamps. Off course, hidden deep under the throttle bodies with a very small gap to get a 3mm allen key in.. which I've snapped two of already. No way to get anything in there to grind it off. I could if I could get the throttle bodies out of the way first but.. erm.

It's my first Saturday off in ages. Thought I'd enjoy it with relaxing a bit of theraputic tinkering didn't I. Oh no...

Oh dear. I find it's never the things I expect to go wrong that stop me in my tracks.

I could have done the job in the time I've been swearing at a bolt.

Done it. Found my best 3mm allen socket bit and extension . Got the b@$%£r off. Valve cover is off. There's *lot* of electrical connectors undone all over the place right now. All looks a bit daunting.

Good news. Apparently triumph run loads of cables over the cylinder head with fragile connectors. Makes it a nightmare checking valves.

Good luck with all that. Would be beyond me.

All valves checked. Of course I was hoping it would all be within spec, but as is fairly normal, they've tightened up over 20k miles. 5 out of 8 exhaust valves and 2 out of 8 intake valves out of spec. Only just out, but on the tight side so I'm not inclined to leave them as they'll only get tighter if anything and it's all apart now anyway. Time to get the cams off and check what shims are in there and get ordering.

Anyone know a good place to order shims? Got a feeling Fowlers will fleece me for the amount I'll probably need.

Stuck cam chain tensioner bolt. Rounding off. The lower one, tucked in nice and tight against the frame so the only thing you can get on it is a small spanner. Not enough space for a socket. Dammit. 12 hours and counting... and still not got the cams off.

I won. Made a tool that would fit into the small amount of space inside the frame by cutting an allen key and grinding down the end square to fit into a small socket. Imperial socket instead of metric so slightly snug and it gripped and got the bolt out. Cam chain tensioner out, cam covers off, cams marked up and removed and chain fixed in place. Checked shims and they all seem the same size, so standard from factory? Time to rest. Tomorrow I'll do the maths and work out what shims I need. A very long day in the garage.

I had intended to service the car and van today but I couldn't kind the sump plug keys so no oil change, then couldn't find the new filter for the van so decided I'd tinker on the SV.
Fitted my newly rebuilt front calipers and longer venhill hoses which means my bar conversion is 100% completed
