Default Home made Dog Bones

Have been interested in making a set of dog bones for the SV650S to lift the rear end up 2 inches, I've seen other threads about this but with no How too, So...
How too make new Dog Bones and Fitting...

Tool's required. 17mm Spanner
14mm Spanner
Hacksaw + Blades
Electric drill
6mm drill bit (pilot hole)
12mm drill bit
File, Engineers 1/2 round *******.
2 x 12mm bolt + nuts
Elbow grease, lots off.

1 ) Slacken the two nut's on the old dog bones, using the 17 and 14mm spanner's.
2 ) Lift the bike off the ground so the rear tyre and swinging arm are free to dangle.
3 ) Remove the old dog bones,
4 ) Messure the dia of holes, orignals 12mm and are 145mm between centres, 6mm thick.
5 ) Acquire suitable material to make new Dog Bones.
6 ) Mark out between centres (I used 133mm),raised the rear 2 inches
7 ) Manufacture new dog bones. Drill 6mm pilot holes and through with the 12mm drill bit, hold together with 12mm nut and bolt.
8 ) Tide up the hawsawing with the file.
9 ) Reassemble in revers order.

Nut's removed,

Orignal Dog Bones

Manufactured New Dog Bones

New Dog Bones Fitted.

I'll test ride the bike for a couple hundred miles then remove them, clean them up and Hammerite them.

Your right about the quicker turn in, trying to get used to it, feel's like a differant bike now,
I used 6mm mild steel.
Cloggsy came by before to compare height differance, (He's got a Gixxer thou Shocker on, so his is heigher than stock)
the shadow of the tyre and the height of the wing mirrors are the same to guage the Height differance

Look's good..... ME thinkx
p.s. mine is the one on the left..

I think that's to do with the caster angle, being slightly adjusted, but only by a few millimetres, I haven't felt this yet... but Will be on my guard.

Well 200 ish miles later and Yes....
twichey and lighter on the front end, On hard acceleration and out of corners.
Going into corners, quicker turn in and it felt a little disconcering (nerves)... Now I defo need to uprate the rear Shocker,
Cheers Mike1234 for the input.

Via PM..

I wrote:-

I belive you race the sv,
can you please tell me If the dog bones are that shape for a specific reasion.
looking at the before and after photo's in Home made Doge bones I'm just wondering if the bottom of the shock might Hit the side of the dog bone....

Mike1234 Write :-
The god bones are thinner in the middle for two reason, one to save weight and two to give a bit more clearance at the extremes of any shock movement.

Might be worth filing them down in the area where they might hit or just get someone to bounce up and down on the thing and see how close you get.

In theory, with well set up suspension you shouldn't really have a problem but that looks like a standard shock so I'd advise you to be on the safe side if you can.

Mike

After 200 miles I'd looked at them and there's no sign of wear or hitting the shocker spring. all in all a good MOD.

That mod looks really good, im going to be upgrading my rear shock so may do this at the same time to increase the height. Thinking of modding the front too with something my mate told me, where you put normal fork oil followed by a harder oil and a piece of 2inch tubing to harden the front suspension. Could make for some fun
