You've got the speedo drive from the wrong model of SV. They changed them at some point (I think around 2005). The newer ones generate twice as many pulses. Rather than replacing the speedo drive again, I think you can replace just the magnets inside the speedo drive to fix it.

Thanks for quick response. After checking my purchase of the new sensor I find that what I ordered was for a 99-04 SV650S, so it looks like you're right about Suzuki changing them in 05. I have a return request in to the vendor so we'll see how that goes.

It could be a voltage issue either with the wiring , connectors or in the clock.
