Re: the PC Gaming thread
Well I couldn't wait, after watching a lot of Elite Dangerous game play on twitch I went and bought it on pre-order
I did hope that my current i7 laptop (thinkpad x230) would cope with basic settings so I downloaded the combat tutorial app and even running lower than 800x600 it is a joke, my poor laptop with no seperate GPU (just the cpu based hd4000 stuff) was not up to it in the slightest. So....I've bought a new gaming laptop, sorry, I mean development laptop , so that I can run it properly and play when away a week at a time stuck in hotels of an evening...the new toy should arrive on the 18th, it's an MSI GS60 2QE with a Nvidia 970m GPU I didn't bother going for 3K / 4K screen, I figured I'd use the difference in the price to purchase a separate 29" super wide monitor for at home later on instead. Who needs more than 1920 x 1080 on a 15" laptop screen anyway! Roll on the 18th!

Yeah the reviews put me off a bit too. That and the big price for the pc download. The maps look huge! I'll probably wait for the price to drop

Re: the PC Gaming thread
The map Is our galaxy with a few assumptions...400 billion star systems...it will take a while to navigate. The devs even calculated and placed where voyager would be in year 3300 and it's since been found
As for the graphics and gameplay I'm not sure what the reviewers are on but I think it's great. They're probably basing all this comparing to Star Citizen that will not be out for a very long time and need a super computer to run well! There have been a few issues post updates in gamma testing and they'll likely be a few more on release but the devs are doing an outstanding job getting issues ironed out and once everything settles it'll be trouble free I'm sure. To be fair I am biased as I love the elite series having played the original as a kid, the game concept is spot on. Get onto twitch and watch some gameplay to see for yourself! edit: I WILL be getting an Oculus Rift once they're properly released...that as well as using something like a Saitek X55 and Voice Attack based controls will be insane!

Re: Re: the PC Gaming thread
Once I get to grips I'll look you up and we can try and meet up assuming were not on opposite sides of the galaxy?
