Re: Charging issues
Thanks, have been worried that stator output was too high. I checked the stator with multimeter on a/c and checked rectifier output on d/c. I'm in Yorkshire. Not ready to pay an auto electrician yet!

Re: Charging issues
I've just been looking in the Manual and changing a Stator on these is easy compared with my old CX500s where you have to drop the engine and split the rear engine cover off.Looks like all that is needed is the new Stator and a new oil seal.
If it is that hopefully someone on here may have done one?

Re: Charging issues
Im still not convinced of the problem. I cant see how the generator can give out high volts as if coils are shorted the volts go down as theres less length of winding exposed to the magnetic field. Also high volts should still give a good output from the R/R well at least until it fails through excess current flow...
I would get a second opinion on this before changing anything else |

Re: Charging issues
Just a check back to the OP.Have you tried a different Meter?

Maybe the high alternator output has fried the new reg/rect. Change both together is my only advice I'm afraid. |

Re: Charging issues
The output from a stator depends on the number of turns on each coil, the strength of the magnetic field and the speed of rotation of the magnet. This implies that your stator has always given this voltage output and I would suspect a problem with your meter.
What kind (brand) of DVM are you using? Some get "confused" by high voltage sparks (ie your ignition circuit) if placed too close. |

Re: Charging issues
Just a quick question - if you measure the voltage on the dc output side of the reg/rec with plug connected and ignition on (engine not running) do you see battery voltage on the red lead? (measure it on the reg/rec plug itself). If you turn the ignition off and measure resistance between ground/battery neg and the black lead on the reg/rec, do you see 0Ω?
