Re: Vintage film cameras
Now you've fixed the XD5, you don't need the Nikon FE. The Minolta will do exactly the same ... and more.
I think the RC sold for £36 but the meter didn't work and it had a scuffed front lens. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
No, definitely need the Nikon! What's the asking price? PM me if you want, I am a bit spent out this month though. My £5 ME Super I bought for spares has an intermittent shutter issue. Most of the time it just winds but every so often it will catch and fire.

Re: Vintage film cameras
I've been trying to fix stuff and it's gone nowhere. I bought a Zeiss Contessamatic a while back, not bad but the meter is dead. Turns out the selenium cell is fine (I think) but the meter itself isn't responding. I took the cell out of a spare camera but no combination of the two meters and cells seems to produce anything - which is odd as the spare camera meter was working just fine. Also my latest shots from the Contessa LKE aren't amazingly sharp. I swapped the rear lens element a way back from the spare camera above (Contessa LK), but it could be that on these older ones they would match a set of elements, so maybe I have to swap over all of them. Not a big job now but at the time I thought it was. I read that because quality control of the lens making wasn't as good as today, they'd make up each set by matching the elements, so that the finished item was good. With the old rear element it could be sharp, although it was hazy etc. so flared badly and that's why I replaced it. Aaargh. The way you adjust the shutter/aperture on the Contessamatic is a bit like the Vitomatic, not sure I like it, so think I'll resolder the wires and send it on its way. Works fine, I could collimate it if someone wants it, has a Tessar lens.

Re: Vintage film cameras
IIRC, the Nikon FE is almost identical to my FE2 which was one of my favourite film cameras to shoot. Light, quiet, and super simple metering. A real pleasure to use.
So, yeah. You definitely need the Nikon Keith. |

Re: Vintage film cameras
Sorry, its because Keith_d mentioned FEs. I guess you haven't had a chance to shoot with it yet.

Re: Vintage film cameras
Lol. You mentioned FEs after watching Ghostbusters.
Not used The Nikon yet. Went out today to Elvington air museum at York today and shot off a roll on the OM2. Beautiful, smooth shutter. Took the 50mm f1.4 for inside shots and a 28mm wide angle. I'll put some digital shots up in a sec. |
