Removing/replacing subframe.
Im about to replace the rusted mess of a subframe on my 99 sv650 naked with a decent one and just wondered if anyone has done this before and were there any problems i should look out for?

Re: Subframe swap
I did it with no problems although I would suggest that you get the replacement powdercoated before fitting as it'll last much longer and shouldn't cost to much. The other thing I did was took some pictures of where the wiring went etc so it would go back the same

Re: Subframe swap
IIRC its pretty straightforward, just make sure you remember the routing for all the wiring, brake hose etc. Might help to take a photo once youve removed the plastics.

Re: Subframe swap
why do i type so slow? lol. I also went powder coat + stainess fasteners. I kept the standard M10 subframe bolts tho, didnt fancy changing them for a different material.

Re: Subframe swap
If you do replace those M10, measure pitch. They are fine thread, not standard coarse thread.

I left those ones as standard, wasn't sure if they werehigh tensile or something. Didn't want the subframe falling off with my fat **** on it!

Re: Removing/replacing subframe.
Just had mine powder coated, and i am not sure if it's the coating process, or some rough handling, but it didn't line up when it came to refitting, but just fit 2 of the 4 bolts, and it's easy to twist back into shape. Same would apply if you have a slightly bent one.
Oh and you will need to tap out and clean the threads up, even if they used bungs. Mike |

Re: Removing/replacing subframe.
I didn't go the powder coating route but used some black hammerite on my sub-frames . . seems to do the trick But pretty straightforward process taking them off
