It's a lot more than that for the pointy. 100nm / 74lb-ft

Don't know about a pointy- Curvy is 65nm. Which is a bit more than hand tight with a big wrench.

Of course, tyre fitters often think it's about 100nm...

Suzuki manual will tell you it's 100nm. Haynes says it's a lot less
I go with 100nm

Yeah- zuki manual is 65nm - 47 ft lbs

Would it really be that different for a pointy?

Darren- I was more having a general dig about tyre fitters overtightening. Normally with a pneumatic ratchet!

My Haynes lists both - 65nm for curvy and 100nm for pointy.

They must have fixed that, the Haynes manual was wrong for a while, it only used to have the 65Nm figure for both models which would be wrong for the pointy.

Right I've just checked my Haynes manual which is for years 99 to 05

At the beginning of chapter 1 - Routine maintenance and servicing, it has a list of torque settings. For the rear axle nut it has 65 Nm. It does not specify between the different models

BUT.........

At the beginning of chapter 7 - Brakes, wheels and tyres, it also has a list of torque settings......

Rear wheel axle nut
X, Y, K1 and K2 models ............65 Nm
K3, K4 and K5 models ............100 Nm

I don't know why one is called rear axle nut, and one is rear wheel axle nut, but it looks like they have made a mistake in chapter 1 by not specifying the different models. I wish they would make a manual for the curvy and one for the pointy to avoid confusion.
