Picked bike Saturday. Garage fitted a new fuel tap.
Rode 7 miles to work and this started happening on way home. Once I turned it off there are no dash lights or anything now when turning ignition on.
Exactly same thing that happened the 2 times I've broken down (except I made it home yesterday).
It's been back to the garage 3 times now and back to square 1.

Get the connector blocks apart(black one and yellow on) inside the right hand side of the top fairing, clean the contacts with some fine emery or a very small fine flat file. Then give them a good dose of electrical contact cleaner followed by some ACF50 to neutralise any corrosion and protect against any more developing. Then put them back together and try again.
There are also two connector blocks in the same place on the left hand side of the bike. You could do the same to them while in cleaning mode.

I think you have more than one problem. The secondary one is probably a fuel issue, maybe choke plungers, water in fuel flooding carbs or something else. The main issue though is surely electrical. You shouldnt get the dials going mad like that. That can happen with a reg/rec failure(check the readings while the bike is playing up)or maybe a short in the loom somewhere which is intermittant.Old curvys are known to be prone to chafing of the loom around the steering head, under the riders seat where the bolts hit wire and under the pillion where the loom bends sharply.Time to get the multimeter out I think.

I have to admit, at this point I'd be contemplating breaking it for parts and buying another. What a headache!

Morale of the story, don't buy the first bike you see!
Garage are picking it up tomorrow, I showed them the video, explained this is the exact symptom it had the last 2 times I broke down and is what I've paid them 4hrs labour (plus parts) to fix in the first place.
They said a faulty reg/rec wouldn't cause it and it was tested when it went in again on Saturday.

Appreciate all the input, kind of wish I persevered in the first place fixing bits and pieces myself, but now I've already paid the money to have it "fixed" by professionals I don't want to feel like I've thrown all my money down the drain.

Had a 2 week holiday so the bike stayed in the garage.
Picked it up today and the latest conclusion....
Connector under the front fairing corroded.
and....Dun dun dun.... Reg/Rec was overcharging
Replaced with an uprated unit.

We'll see what happens next.

Not to tempt fate but since the reg/rec was changed the bike hasn't missed a beat.
Shame the garage didn't diagnose this the first 3 times even though I mentioned it every time I took it in.

That's why the Org is such a great place, and loads of experience with Sv problems. You usually get an answer which solves most usual problems.

Frustrating that you've (presumably) had to pay three lots of labour for a ten minute job. There really is a lot to be said for learning to do all these little jobs yourself. I've saves thousands over the years.
