Do you always change the oil filter when..
Do you always change the oil filter when.....you change the oil.
The oil isn't too bad to be honest....and thinking I'll keep the filter for its proper service. Any thoughts opinions on when changing the filter (is from Hien G not dealer). Cheers, Neil |

Re: Do you always change the oil filter when..
It's not vital, but easy enough to do that I think it's well worth the effort/small expense. Your new oil will discolour much more quickly if you leave the filter because you just can't get all the old stuff out.
But then again, if you know the age of the filter, and your oil isn't too bad, then it's not necessary. |

Re: Do you always change the oil filter when..
I would change the oil and filter as recommended by the manufacturers service manual,it is surprising how much crud accumulates in a filter restricting oil flow /pressure. Most modern lubricants have very long lives, far in excess of the service intervals, but there is nothing more beneficial than clean oil and filter for an engine.

The manual says change it every second time. I do it every time because, well, because it's not expensive and it makes me feel better, plus it's easier than remembering if I did it last time

I always change the filter when I change the oil, mind you I'm used to older bikes and always changed the oil earlier than needed

I always change the filter if I'm changing the oil, on bikes and cars, filters are so cheap so I just do it as a matter of course.

Like Northy - I do them both partly due to insignificant cost, but mostly because I can never remember if I've already done it or can skip it.
I'm also one ofr changing them at about 2k - but then I ride Hondas with a service break of 4k - but they're older and I've just got into the habit with my old MG of a bi-schedule change. bit of TLC never goes unnoticed. |
