To remind you of the rules, I shall print everyone's names onto small scraps of paper and then ask a collegue to pull names out of a hat (a real hat, in fact it will be the fluffy rabbit fur Russian hat I wore to work today that makes me look like Boris Yeltsin).

Once you have the name of your gift recipient by PM you must go forth and shop like the three wise men. And just like them your chosen gift must be of absolutely no useful purpose whatsoever. After all, what could a baby do with a lump of gold or some dried tree sap?

Your budget is £5 maximum and with this you must purchase something that is tat. Complete tat. Utter tat. An object so tacky that if aliens landed on earth they would look at it and say 'There's no intelligent life on this planet if humans are prepared to pay £5 for something that is such a load of old tat.'

Then wrap your gift, write the name of the recipent of your on the wrapping paper or a securely fixed tag and bring it to the party with you. This is important, do not go to all the trouble of sourcing and wrapping your gift only to leave it at home.

As Treacle forgot to bring his gift last year I suggest we make him dress up as Santa this year to give out the gifts. The down side is he'll have to bleach his beard white, but the upside is that all the girls get to sit on his knee.
