I have a tomtom rider v2. Got it on eBay for £80 as faulty... Received it, realised the seller was trying to charge it with a usb cable... Got the right charger lead and works a dream! Pretty sure it was stolen.

Had a car tomtom mounted in a waterproof case, one of the earlier ones with an SD card for dodgy updates, it was good, no complaints, but the battery was getting very iffy and I was getting annoyed with the button sizes not being ideal for riding so get a new one.

I could have got a Rider, but decided on a Garmin 660LM Zumo instead, bought by my own company for business travel It's a very good device, the Garmin software, basecamp, is a nice touch too and it has lifetime maps

Well timed thread, I'm in exactly the same position as the OP. Weekly mileage has massively increased recently due to new job so looking to move on from a phone to the real deal...

Old school but effective. For the last few years I've been spending a few mins checking out a route on Google Streetview looking at the main junctions so it looks more familiar when I get there and making pretty lists of directions to slip in transparent pocket on the tank, then photos of map as back up and CoPilot on phone in an emergency with woman plugged in if I am REALLY desperate

One main issue I'm going to have with carrying about a Satnav is security, it's one extra thing to make me more attractive to thieves and my bike's going to be spending a lot more time parked up in the middle of nowhere off building sites and such. Still weighing up the pros and cons of getting a proper bike sat nav and I'm coming round to thinking a bit more time spent on preparation is definitely cheaper but relies on me having the time to do it. And if I need to go somewhere new without having time to check then that could spell disaster. But it's one extra thing to worry about! Such a first world dilemma
