Default V-Strom 1000

I'm serously thinking about flogging my Versys and buying one. Are there any horror stories to be told of them?

Cam chains have been known to jump off the sprockets and cause the usual terminal havoc

SV type suspension, ie diabolical

You could ask Viper, he's got one, although he's not been on here for a while

Aren't they fitted with the same engine as a SV1000, in which case the camchain and CCT design would be identical? I've not heard of this problem on the SV1000 engine, so why would it be specific to the DL?

Sorry I was talking out of my ****, about the Honda, on a different planet earlier

Yes, V-Strom is the same engine, so no horror stories there

Just the suspension isn't as good as the Sv1000, bit basic I think

The Pingu's have one, ask them.

I'd buy one

Ah right. I owned a Firestorm in 1998, sold it before all the CCT issues came to light... luckily. All they were known for at the time was destroying water pump mechanical seals - mine got replaced a couple of times.

I rode a V-Strom 1000 about a year ago and really got on with it, and today chatted to a guy who just sold his 58 plate one this week - that rekindled my thoughts about them.

I had one on a 3 day demo and loved it, suspension was a bit suspect but no more than the sv's, longer travel iirc which might make it feel worse, nothing that couldn't be rectified i assume. so more praise than horror story, sorry.

Yes, thats where my brain was.

Usual Suzuki things, no grease on assembly.

I'm sure there was a review in Ride magazine and there were no big issues with the V Strom

The Thou engine is well build and good for high miles.

Supsension is SV and not up to much, brakes are the sv650 2pots. As a side the new 650 strom look stonking value for the kit on them

My IAM observer had one and never had a issue and he does runs up to scotland a couple time a year fully loaded

I had a DL650 for 4 years. Was a good all round bike. Great for one up touring but not for 2.
