Default Sputnik-so what?

Well 50 years ago since the former USSR beat the USA to be the first to launch a space satelite.

Which as you all I am sure agree has led to an amazing number of benefits to the human race based on the continuing efforts made by NASA. Their greatest acomplishment of course was the famous vaudeville lights, miirrors and cojnuring tricks better known as the "lunar landing".

"Do you believe they put a man on the moon?"

I still think they did. Whether it happened on that day is a different storey though. Maybe it was all filmed to simply beat the russians to it.....

But they've definatly been there.

Never mind that though, when is someone going to create a technology that enables us to get to our other planets and won't take 5+ years to get to each one

Wonder how many advances could be made if the USA swapped its military budget with that of NASA's.......

On the one hand, investing in space isn't very productive just now, we're still miles away from orbiting solar satellites, zero gee medication and industry, asteroid mining, and we probably shouldn't be settling other planets when we haven't worked out how to drive this one yet.

On the other hand, spaceships are cool.

Yes they went to the moon...there is no poof they didn't. Plenty of proof they did.

Sputnik is vital to our modern life and it started here on this day...fifty years ago.

The video footage...the moon rocks...the pix...the moonwalkers themselves...the chuffing huge rockets...radio comms from the surface of the moon...the scientific experiments still on the moon...

Oh yeah...the flag waving bit...damn there goes the farm.

If Wallice and Grommit could make it there, Im sure the Americans could do it.
If they set off at night all you have to do is aim for the big bright circle thingy in the sky.

on a more serious note. Yes they went to the moon.

or did they?
