Suspension set-up
Hi,
Im only new to the site and Recently bought a 00 650s. It came with a zx10 shock already fitted. This shock feels very stiff. Also the front dives alot under heavy braking. Does any one Know if any forks of any model/year gsxr would bolt straight on with no mods needed, and also whats a reasonably priced steering damper that would fit. Thanks. |

Re: Suspension set-up
You should just be able to change the preload, rebound and damping on the shock to fit you. The front end conversion I believe lowers the front end further making it quicker steering. Try sticking in thicker fork oil in the front and maybe a couple mm of spacers, there's a guide to doing this on the FAQ of the main site under a quick suspension conversion I believe.

Re: Suspension set-up
Thanks man, what about a steering damper. Ohlins and scott seem fairly expensive, I just want a cheapo one

Re: Suspension set-up
General consensus on the site seems to be that no steering damper is necessary on the SV, even for racing. So unless you have a specific problem I wouldnt bother, there are better ways to spend the money

Re: Suspension set-up
SV doesn't need one IMO.
As for GSXR front end the entire SRAD front will bolt in, but you have to make a new speedo drive and fit a different top bearing.

As for the steering damper, its a waste of money on the SV, you don't need one! I ride fast on country roads and I've never felt the need for a steering damper, this is with a standard SV and now with an SV750 with SRAD front forks dropped 5mm and the back end jacked up an inch!!! Even on track bikes you will not need a steering damper! |

Re: Suspension set-up
Mine was shaking its head a couple of times on saturday, maybe full throttle over bumpy crests isn't such a good idea?
I think thats down to the rear shock though, as it skips over bumps too (too much rebound?)

Actually, yes, I WILL disagree. If the geometry of the bike has been messed up with, and a hard rear and dropped forks may qualify, the front may be a little twitchy Sure, a damper on a stock SV is pointless blink One a frankensteinian beast, might be a good idea. I have a friend who suffered from 2 broken wrists as a result of a tank slapper caused by bad geometry. So maybe one IS needed - but I am not qualified to say yes or no

Re: Suspension set-up
the ZX shock really isn't suited to the SV. As you have found out. It makes the SV almost a rigid.
I know a few who have installed it and changed it almost as quickly as it went in. |
