Default Brighter Lights

I was out for a spin yasterday, and ended up down some very dark country roads, lost track of time and it got dark.
It was my first time driving it in non-urban areas at night, holy crap do the headlights suck ass, I couldnt see a thing compared to my last bikes lights.
Can i put brighter bulbs into it?, irish country backroads are no joke at night, huge potholes, blind bends and unmarked roadworks arent uncommon, and unfortunately a lot of my mates live at the end of them so not driving on them isnt really an option.

Hi.

yes...but what bike is it you have?
Alternatively you could go the full whack and have something like these . Not the big ones on the top pic, scroll down a bit.

Not done to much riding at night, but I find the K3 lights ok (defo on back lanes as the light beam is not so spread)

.. you weren't wearing any tinted visor of any sort ..!

Had one of these behind me on the why to work the other week. Bloody bright thought I was being chased by a flying saucer. You really need all those lights to ride up the A2!!!!

i changed my bulbs to osram silverstars on my SK3, and the lights are very good indeed. Also had a pillion last time i did dark back roads (last night) which improves things somewhat.

higher wattage bulbs will be brighter, but also generate more heat.

over time, the extra heat will make the housing brittle and disintigrate

Is this the case with Philips VisionPlus bulbs? Also, would headlight covers wreck due to the extra heat?

It's not the heat which damages plastic light lenses, it's UV radiation, cheaper bulbs aren't so well UV shielded, this is what does the damage.

Don't buy unbranded bulbs - even of the standard wattage - always get one of the recognised brands.
