Removing 25kw restrictor kit (Alpha Tecchnik/FI Internationa
SV650S, 2003 Injection.
Have just acquired my 1st SV. But have now found out (something they forgot to tell) it is fitted with one of the above. Can get my Dad to remove if he knows what he is looking for. The info I have gleaned so far is Throttle stop and Inlet blade and its just removing parts. If any one knows better please advise. Would like to know as much as possible to make job easy. Thanks. If it's an FI bike (K3 onwards / pointy) it should have a different ECU fitted so it's a simple matter of unplugging the old one and plugging the new one in, simple as you like no specialist tools or knowledge needed. Bad news is standard ECUs aren't cheap so may be worth seeing if you can source one 2nd hand, or even swap ECUs with someone on a restricted licence?

Hmm?
The ecu is made by mitsubishi iirc? ..possibly you have a full power ecu and the previous owner has installed an aftermarket restriction kit....(cheaper than a new ecu) Quick check..lift rider seat....lift out ecu which sits behind battery.... check the part number( MT something something something)...if it ends in 60 its full power, and if it ends in 61 its restricted. If its 61 then you need a replacement one for yer 70bhp or so....i got one second hand a month or so ago from england through a breakers i had to almost stalk over the phone .... they can be quite difficult to come by second hand for anything like reasonable money. Drop me a pm if you need one and i'll see what I can do. If its full power already and restricted through an aftermarket kit then im not sure...as you stated-possibly throttle stops and/or inlet washers... Throttle.... open up throttle assy...2 screws iirc....check for anything that looks like its stopping full throttle movement. Inlet washers, lift tank, lift airbox....look for washers there...if none then lift throttle bodies....if no washers there then its not restricted. Strictly speaking on the FI models there shouldnt be inlet washers for restriction....theres two sets of butterfly valves afaik..one controlled by the throttle, and the second controlled by the ecu in response to your throttle input and all the measured thingies that the ecu takes care of...so it would be "self restricting" if the throttle is limited. ..best thing to do is get in touch with previous owner and ask what he had installed if anything.....he may have bought the kit just for the cert or whatever to show to insurance to get insured. |

Did you buy private or dealer? If it was a dealer,I'd get back to them and ask them to sort it as you did'nt want a restricted bike.If private ask them if they have the standard parts to fit.I take it the bike did'nt come with a certificate of restriction which could add to resale value when you sell.

Thanks to all especially James info was most helpfull.
Kit was removed today in approximately 3/4 of hour. It comprised (1)Throttle stop. It was only secured by bottom screw that secures cable assy to body. (2) Washers under throttle bodies in flexible couplings. see attached photo of kit. Many thanks Somerset Sally ps (a)will be up the M5 tomorrow with all my kw free. (b)a full power ecu (60) is fitted. |

Well thats good news..glad we could be of help.
The unrestricted oomph is lovely...i found on private roads....... Enjoy your SV and well wear. Edit.... Your SV will be on file with FI international as restricted..... if you wanted to get a replacement cert from them it may be possible, and then come sale time you may get a few bob more for it if you restrict it again. Funnily enough was speaking to them today about getting a kit for a 00cbr6..... they keep all the details of the owner and bike and the dealer who fits the kit on file. |

How do you get the throttle stop off!? Do I have to strip throttle bodies down?
