Thumbs up Touring the Scottish west coast

I was on holiday the last two weeks waiting for the sun to come out. I've been thinking of touring over west and up north for ages. On thursday the weather finally seemed to be clearing for the weekend. Me and Gav had been speaking about heading over west for a while and on Thursday night decided to go for it. Mad rush to get the tent and everything packed and ready to leave Friday morning.

We headed up and over the Lecht heading for Ullapool. It was a bit drizzly, but cleared up once we got there. We were planning on camping there, but got there mid afternoon so decided to head for a campsite at Achmelvich. Anyway, here's some pics

The guy and his wife in the tent next to us was a biker who had his sv on a trailer to play on (which he recently bought for £400!!). We got chatting to them that night and managed to get some water for a pot noodle and a cup of tea

Some old Vincents at the campsite

It was a beautiful site

Saturday the weather was much better. We continued up the coast, along all the small twisty roads.

Stoer Head lighthouse

The "best little shop in Britain". We got some fresh baked baguettes for lunch here, and a disposable BBQ and some sausages and burgers to have at the campsite later

Went to have a look at the Smoo Cave. The river runs down a hole, under the road, then comes out in a cave underneath.

Then continued over the north coast

We got a campsite at Bettyhill. Got the tents up, then went for a wee blast to explore the area. Got back about 9pm and tried the BBQ but it wasn't burning too well, but the guy next to us (who was also a biker who raced an sv1000, and was touring with his family in his campervan) gave us some lighting foam. That, mixed with a lighter and a deodorant can, soon got it going We didn't have any rolls but they tasted brilliant just on their own.
The guy also gave us some drink and we chatted to them in to the night about bikes

Sunday morning.

We headed down the B71/B73. Loch Naver

The sv1000 guy recommended we have a look at the Falls of Shin where you can see the salmon jumping up the river.

We had some burgers there, then headed down the A9 home. Great weekend and beautiful scenery!

God almighty will you stop making me jealous? First Europe then West Coast?! You must have too much money and/or time to be doing that. Its like a military operation to get away for a few hours. Prime wife. Prime kids etc... .

Great pics BTW
