I’ve been delaying posting this so far, trying to get some idea of where the Covid19 thing is headed, but I think we need some contingency planning now.

I’m hoping that by mid July we will be able to hold the BPW, but listening to the medical people speaking rather than the wishful thinking of certain politicians, I’m not optimistic.

I’m of the view that if we can’t go ahead with the weekend, we should leave Graham’s and Anne at Bunkorama with the money rather than trying to get a refund. Personally, although I’m not that well off, I can afford to let the money I paid go if it will help to keep them afloat. I’m guessing that the bunkhouse and campsite represent most of their income over the season so anything I can do to help keep them solvent I’m happy to do.

I’m writing this as someone self employed whose income from work has vanished pretty much entirely, so I know how it’s likely to be for Bunkorama too.

What’s everyone else’s view on this?

We've left our family money with a couple of things (kids swimming lessons with small indie pool etc) as a deposit for future use rather than ask for it back. Means the small companies don't have to refund and have financial problems, but it's money we would have spent or would in future, so doesn't make a huge impact on us.


Can this sort of thing be done with Bunkorama? I imagine they might not be able to let us use the bunkhouse so they'd be turning us away and offering a refund anyway. I'd be happy with them to keep the money for a future use there, to guarantee them some business when things are "normal" again and us something to look forward to.

I agree Gary, I'm not worried about the money. Perhaps they can give us a slot later in the year?

I think if we cancel/have it cancelled for us the money should stay with Graham and Anne. Financially for my trip the accommodation share isn't even remotely an issue.

Had a feeling we'd be having this conversation soon. Such a shame after you've done such a grand job organising things Gary. Hopefully just a postponement.

I'm also fine with letting the bunkhouse keep my share of the dosh if it will help keep them afloat.

I’m happy to talk with Graham and Anne about a possible postponement if people are ok with that. Wouldn’t want it to be any later than September though really as we start losing day length quite noticeably by then.

I’ll give them a call this evening and report back.
