Tradesmen.

You get them round to give you a quote, you get the quote and you say that's fine. Then they don't reply to texts or email messages about when they're going to turn up?

So when they turn up at my mum house to do the work, and there's no one to let them in, who's fault will that be.

If you don't want the work, just say I'm too busy

The heating insurance company text me last week that they were coming out on Tuesday for the annual inspection. Tuesday comes and the boiler man texts to say he's at my front door. Nice. I was at work.

Why am I grumbling about my not being there? The last annual inspection was 3 months ago.

Even in my world that is outside the grace period for annual inspections.

When you have something brand new and covered in chrome you don't want to get it filthy before it's got 50 miles on it. Well, I don't anyway. New tyres too so the chicken in me is winning. Plus (and this is a much better excuse) my brother and family who are over from Australia stayed last night, left their stuff with us while they spent their final UK hours exploring Oxford and had a cup of tea at 5 before packing the hire car and heading for Heathrow. This stop over at the stary of their return journey was last minute and unplanned and as we see them every five years or so they rather trump a ride in the rain.

The BBC agrees with Mav's forecast so I'll head out for the day tomorrow instead.

Road resurfacing with loose chippings everywhere. Spoiled yesterday's ride as I slithered along at 20mph across large parts of Essex and Suffolk. Why can't they just send a road sweeper along afterwards.

Try riding those resurfaced roads on 25mm bicycle tyres, bloody lethal.
