Default Tank questions

Hi,

I have two tank-related questions. Firstly, my filler cap is very stiff and I think needs a good clean (see photo below). Do you have any ideas of what would work well to clean it up without damaging the rubber or contaminating the petrol, or should I be looking at a replacement?

Secondly, does anyone know what is used to glue on the rubber cushions on the side of the tank, that sticks but won't damage the paint?

Thanks!

That's just a little surface rust and nothing to worry about. Wipe it over with WD40 and then the same to lube the lock. Spray it on and work the mechanism. Its not going to contaminate the petrol, I've done this myself.

As for the glue, I didn't think they were glued on?

Hah! It's probably 17 years of random gunk keeping them there, then!

Thanks.

Get some ACF50.I use it all over the bike.Seems costly but goes a long way,

Great lube and anti-corrosion treatment.I also use it in and on all my electrical connectors/bulb holders etc as well as the hinges and locks on my fuel cap/ignition.

If you don't know what it is read here,

I have ACF50, but I still think it needs a good clean first.

Yeh.You don't want any crud getting into the tank as I understand the fuel filters are pretty small on these bikes.I had external in-line ones on my Hondas.Way easier to keep clean.
