Exclamation Bizarre Clock issues on K5 Pointies (2 bikes) please help

Hi All,
I have got 2 x K5 650's that i use in Minitwins.
Got a really bizzare clock/instrument problem. This is not a new problem, the effected bike has been like it since I picked it up a month ago.

Only the Rev counter works on the effected bike when the instrument binnacle is supplied with a 12v diect feed from the ignition switch to the Red/Black tracer into the clocks at the back. No tempreture, LCD display or Fuel light and water temp funtion whatsoever - only the 'backlight' and the rev needle.

Without this 12v feeder wire from the ignition switch the clocks do not funtion at all, no rev needle movement or backlight.
I thought the clocks were at fault so tried the binnacle from the other machine - with the same results - nothing works at all, yet when I re-install the 'test' clocks back onto the other bike everything works fine.

The clocks from the faulty bike do not work at all on the other bike, yet plug in the 'correct' clocks from that bike and all works fine.
This is puzzling as I would have thought the clocks that work perfectly fine on one bike would do so on another, but they dont.

I am wondering if the clocks need matching or re-setting to the ECU in some way?

I've checked the loom for integrity and there are no frayed wires or bad connections. both looms are exatcly the same.

I'm loathed to get another set of clocks of ebay/brakers as how do I know they won't work. Like I say when I take the clocks of the bike that functions perfectly and place them on the other bike they don't work.

If there a fuse or something within the clocks I can check, haven't had them apart as yet, thought the answer to my woes could be obtained here. Please help as it's driving me nuts !

Ta.

Check the pins all have power going to same place. Sounds like the dodgy bike isn't getting it's switched live feed

Unplug connector, get a multimeter, a can of patience and see what has what going to it. The wiring diagram should help. As should me telling you; you should have bought a curvy... oh maybe that wont help... but still .... curvy.

OK thanks for the 'help' heehee. what is bizzare thou is when I plug the clocks in from the "OK" bike, those clocks don't work, so you suspect the loom. But, when I put the clocks from the "not OK" bike ok onto the "OK" they dont' work either. You would at least expect the clocks from the "OK" bike to work on the "NOT OK".

Or, how can it be explained that the clocks from the "not OK" bike DONT work on the OK bike.

When using the multimeter where should I pick up the earth from, frame ?

Bad contact on the connector then?

CHeers chris, just had a thought thou - if it's a bad connector block on the "Not OK" loom/bike, why is it then that the clocks from the not OK bike do not work on the OK bike/loom. Are you suggesting then that both the male and female pins/slots on the Not OK loom and Clocks are both knackered.

It's possible, just a visual inspection of all the pins should let you know.
