Default Replacement Battery

Hi,

The stock battery is no longer holding charge on my 2000 SV650 Curvy. What is the consensus on replacement batteries?

Thanks,

Consensus? That's optimistic of you.

The stock battery is a Yuasa YT12A-BS. I have bought a lot of stuff from ebay but I wouldn't buy an inexpensive battery from there, unless it was from a respected dealer. (sportsbikeshop springs to mind).

Personally I wouldn't buy a Lithium battery - they are lighter but can have cold weather issues and require a different (or up to date) battery tender. they do not like being overcharged.

I've read good things about Motobatt but not used one myself but probably will when my present battery bites the dust.

Liked my Motobatt, always handy to have the extra terminals to hook up any accessories

Never had a single issue with Yuasa in cars or bikes, wish I could say the same for some other brands I have tried....

Try Tayna battery, good prices and fast delivery..

I've had Varta , Bosch and Yuasa - Yuasa is without a doubt the best.

I also buy the 14 size IIRC . Extra CCA

I recently fitted a new Yuasa YTZ14S in my 2001 curvy. the last one lasted 10 years, including a 2 year long lay up when it was only charged occasionally. It is only 5mm taller than the standardYT12A-BS but produces 230CCA v 175CCA. Some people throw away the document tray to accommodate the extra height but it's much better to peel off the thick piece of foam, that rests on the top of the battery, and replace it with a thinner piece.
