Default Speed Sensor rotor.

I broke it!

Damn thing is made from monkey brains anyway.

Will it work if I glue it back together? Also does it need all four tabs, a silly question I am aware, but I lost one?

It feels like ferrous impregnated plastic and I am trying to work out how it measures the speed, I think the four tabs pass by the sensor, thus activating it that way. However less nerdy members of the household think that this is unlikely.

Found a replacement part on the web, but it is in Europe and is going to cost twenty Euros. Which is a lot better than the quote I got for the whole speed sensor unit at £177!

Anyone know of any places where I can pick one up cheap, it does not have to be brand new, just as long as it is in one piece and not missing any tabs?

On the plus side, I have a nice shiny new front tyre as of today. So can use the bike again this weekend, minus speed indicator. Also very nearly booked my test, but the DSA computer is broken and no tests available!

Works the same way as a cycle speedo.
Easiest way to double your speed on one of them is fit another magnet!

Mine's held together with sticky axle grease at the moment because the superglue wouldn't keep it together. I'll probably have to replace it next time I get a front tyre.

I can't remember whether it's got three or four lugs now.

I've stuck broken ones back together with a hot glue gun a couple of times, (no, I didn't break them!).
It doesn't need all four lugs, there's a few bikes I know of that have only two.

Yeah the sensor is a hall effect one. It works by metal in the rotor passing by the sensor which is some semiconductor and swaps between conducting and nonconducting.

3 out 4 of mine are held on with araldite - previously they were attached to the wheel by grease and will power (not mine - I hadn't known they were broken!)
