Default National Scooter Rally

The National Scooter Rally is on in Cleethorpes this weekend. I respect these guys for their enthusiasm in keeping their scoots on the road. Looking at some of the custom paint jobs they've invested heavily.

As a two stroke fan, it's nostalgic to smell the burnt/unburnt hydrocarbons and to those riders that added some Castrol R an extra special thank you.

The last 2 years they've had miserable weather but looks like they may have struck lucky this year.

Isn't it just. I was out on Wednesday night round Matlock Bath way, and there was a group of around 20-25 scooters coming the other way, the air was fragrant for a couple of miles

At Llyn Tegid, Bala last weekend, a bloke on a 350LC with Allspeeds pulled in. Sounded SO good Made me wish I hadn't killed my 380

i also admire their dedication. once a year they all get together and ride down to Brighton form all over Scotland. thats some trip at 50mph.

personally i dont like riding the bloody things, especially the ones with the stupid gear change grip (lambretta?)

Vespas have the left-grip gear change too. I personally think Lambrettas look very nice, whereas Vespas are a bit porky. It's 30+ years since I had a go on one but they're horrible to ride, they bounce all over the shop.

Although this one would be interesting: https://classic-motorbikes.net/what-...pvs-lambretta/

Got stuck behind a scooter in a service station queue when rider was filling up, took him ages even after he had found his oil bottle and carefully measured it out and then dribbled petrol into the tiny tank and then put the fuel cap on and rocked the scoot to mix it up. Would have taken Eddie Stobart less time to fill one of his HGV's up. A guy I used to work with rides a scooter and is an active scoot club member, unfortunately he is 6 foot and about 17 stone, one wag said 'Sean, you look like a bun on a currant'.

From what I remember Lambrettas were sen as stylish and the bad boys rode 'sporty' Vespa scoots.

An old school mate was potty about Vespas when we were at college. He had no problems riding my little Honda H100 but after a mile on his PX125 (I think) I could not carry on. Bouncy as Craig suggested and you had to ride them at a slightly canted over angle as the engine was on one side making the weight distribution horrible. I'd never own one but the well restored classic ones look amazing. Just need a a few of us on our Bonnevilles to turn up to even things out a bit*.

*this is a joke, obviously...

Modern scooters handle significantly better than their ancestors.
Some of them are also surprisingly fast.
For example a 350 Piaggio Beverly (yes its really called that) can sit at 85mph all day long.
