starter motor cover
Apart from the Evotech engine guard, does anybody know of a starter motor cover . I seem to remember somebody on here had made something to protect the front of the starter motor from debris thrown up from the front wheel.

Re: starter motor cover
Could have been me. I used some guttering down pipe which was just the right diameter.

So you need to remove the starter motor ,slide the plastic pipe over and replace the motor ,is that right ? What holds the pipe firmly in position ? |

Re: starter motor cover
I don't recall the dimensions, I just happened to have some black down pipe left over from a guttering job. The motor has to be removed but that's easy as it's only two bolts. I had to cut out a notch for the electric terminal so that the pipe covered the black area of the motor. Nothing is needed to hold the pipe in place as it can't go anywhere being trapped against the terminal and the engine housing. I think it was a snug fit so didn't slide about.

Re: starter motor cover
One of the first jobs I did when I got my 99 was to take off and strip/clean and service the Starter motor. Consider doing this when you have the motor off. It's a commonly overlooked service point and will pay dividends in the long run. A well serviced Starter Motor puts less strain on the Battery and electrical system when starting the machine

As the man says ' I can't understand why the designers didn't put some kind of cover over this lot or place them elsewhere. Anyone can see that these parts are going to get some rough treatment.' Exactly , a decent front mudguard as standard would help of course. |

Re: starter motor cover
Even with a mudguard extender my SV suffered. A belly pan might have helped. As you say a simple cover over the starter motor and that ugly oil filter would have helped.

Re: starter motor cover
You just need the right size mudflap
