Default Video file conversion

I have a couple of films on my PC in .avi file type. IIRC that type doesn't play on a conventional DVD player. I already have a file conversion programme, but I'm a bit clueless as to what to convert the file to...WMV? .mov?

Help appreciated as usual from the font of knowledge.

You'll need a suite that can burn them to an iso format (standard DVD) or a DVD player that is capable of playing other video formats.

Theres a prog out there called AVS video converter - you drag any stuff onto it and tell it to make a DVD, works a treat. Not sure if its freeware or trialware or whatever, but the copy I have seems unrestricted.

If you've got the full version of Nero, then you can use Nero Vision - should be in the programs menu. Pull the AVI into that, create chapters, build DVD menu, and burn.

Depending on the codec used to create the AVI, you may need to also have DivX/XVid and AC3 installed, but if you can already watch the avi you've got this covered.
