General Question about Tyres
How often should I be checking my tyre pressures? Had the bike 2 weeks now and having bought from a dealer and it having been serviced I have not bothered. Should every 4 weeks be ok?
Also, I have noticed that the front tyre has tiny lines of egg shell across the outer corners. It is not drastic but is it significant? I can also see a long brown line running down the centre of the tyre, but it is fairly unworn so far as I can tell. Is this line shown on a new tyre or extinguished on a worn one? Thanks |

Re: General Question about Tyres
I check mine weekly, but there is a school of thought that says you should check them every time you ride the bike.
4 weeks it to big a gap between pressure checks IMHO. Standard pressures are 33 PSI in the front and 36 PSI in the rear on a SV. Any chance of a picture of your tyre, it'll be easier to see if there is a problem that way. |

Re: General Question about Tyres
Check before you ride: Tyres & tyre pressures, brakes, chain, oil level, lights (and probably other stuff I'm forgetting)
People rarely do though but you should check your tyres, like fizz says, atleast once a week.

Re: General Question about Tyres
I tend to check visually every time I take the bike out the garage. However I bend my back and put the gauge on weekly in the summer About twice over the winter whilst the bike sits on its paddock stands waiting for the rain/salt to go away.

Quote:
It takes like 20 seconds while the bike warms up, I used to walk out the door with all my kit on start the engine & quickly check the bike over. Cagers are half asleep in the morning if your indicators aren't working their going to be too slow to fathom what's happening and just plough through you, they don't check their mirrors properly so headlights help etc. etc. Anyway back on topic yeah like once a week or more should be fine and just give them a prod before you get on the bike.

Re: General Question about Tyres
If you check them fairly regularly at first you will soon get a feel for how often it is needed. Remember it's not just a case of checking pressures, although finding one that is a few psi down is a good prompt to go and look for the cause! Visual checks for small nails or damage to the tread are just as important, especially if you are riding daily.
