Water Pump....leak
EDIT: Err...forgot the link
http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/300_03...0&parent=11810 Hoping someone could help out here. I've got a coolant leak(didn't notice any oil) and obviously a seal or O ring has gone. Searched and found a post by Northwind in which it appears his leak was cured by replacing the O ring(there are actually 2 of those) labelled '18' My research suggests the culprit could possibly also be the seal labelled '8' but that is the most expensive seal as well . Of course I'll change the number '8' seal is it comes to that but just wanted to make sure I didn't waste money changing it. Any thoughts? Ben

Re: Water Pump....leak
Is the water going into the sump or coming out on the floor?? If its on the floor then items 12 or 15 are the culprits. the water pump seal and o-rings that you mentioned stop the water from leaking back into the lump - I Think!!

Re: Water Pump....leak
With mine, the water pump had come loose from the casing, one of the bolts sheared... So maybe not a good example. It'll only be number 12 if the pump's leakingthrough it's own casing, rather than between the pump and engine. I've got one of those btw, if you want it... Never needed it, in fact, couldn't get the pump to split

Re: Water Pump....leak
Ben, what did you order?
I went out to my bike this morning and it looks like its blurted all its coolant out from around the water pump, I need to go through the manual to see how much work it is to get the pump off, but I'm guessing I should replace the pump and seals rather than risk the pump failing in a few weeks after disturbing it? Re: Water Pump....leak
Tell you the truth, I was using my voicemail instead of answering calls all weekend. But it turns out my voicemail doesn't work I was wondering why nobody leaves me messages any more...

Re: Water Pump....leak
Ho ho, a new water pump is £400, I've orderded all the O rings plus the 'mechanical seal'
So 8,9, 2x18, 12, 13 plus a clutch cover gasket. It came to 30 something quid, plus new oil. 3 days on the train for me Mags |

Mine is definitely leaking between the case and the pump(having had a better look) so feel fairly sure it's the mechanical seal now. Should hopefully be doing it today. Ben |
