Done so far:

ART stainless oval, rumble rumble, crackle crackle, pop pop.
And another one on the other side.
Hamicad Radiator grille.
---"--- Oil cooler grille
---"--- fender eliminator.
Scottoiler, with modded delivery plate, much neater, (removed from previous bike).
Switched TRE, homemade, working on possibility of temp linking this for full automation.
Suzuki bellypan, bought second hand from Big Thumpa, no longer wearing performance sapping silver paint, will be refitted any month now.
Home made belly pan brackets.
Remarked swingarm to allow proper wheel alignment.
Ignition advanced 4º.
Renthal Road Ultra Low handlebars, in blue.
Renthal cross brace for above, also blue.
Natty blue handlebar end plugs as well.
Bagster tank cover.
ART carbon front mudguard. Pressie from ART!! Replaced original that wore Pyramid fenda extenda.
Datatool System 3 alarm/immobiliser.
JHS crash bungs.
Modded airbox.
Rather fetching blue bolts on the petrol cap.
And the rear sprocket nuts have gone blue too
Anodised alloy tax disc holder, in blue.
Paddock stand bobbins. (guess the colour).
Continental Road Attacks.
Art Carbon Evo hugger.
Plastic bag. (Friday evenings only).

Not fitted at the mo:

Fabbri headlamp mounted screen, removed at present to allow fabrication of nicer mounts as the Fabbri originals are pants, they will probably accomodate the new indicators I've got too.

Being given serious thought:

Lower/comfier seat. Not decided what to do about this yet, cut the original or go the whole hog and spend money (ouch) on a new one of some variety.
Lose the grabrail, may well get moaned at about this one though, so I'm not sure yet.
I'd quite like some of those angled can spacers.

Being given less intensive thought:

Mirrors, for entiely vain and cosmetic reasons I'd like to find something else, the originals however are very good and fairly vibe free, so practicality may rule. Hmmmm, like the little bar end ones though.

I've only just started to tinker. Most of what I have done so far has involved a minimal cash out lay.....

Disabled ignigion retard
under tray (home made)
clear flush mount indicators front and rear
BT010 front and rear (next time something a little more wear resistant)
Synthetic motor oil
520 conversion (standard sprocket size)
Carbon tank protector

I suppose it is time to spend some money.
Coming soon...

Renegade twin high level exhaust
K&N
Stage 1 Dynojet kit
GSXR 600 rear shock
traxxion dynamics drop in damper rod upgrade with emulators
upgraded springs and fork oil
braided steel lines front and rear
EBC HH pads
4 deg. woodruff key advance mod

If the planets line up just right....

JHS 700 big bore kit
5.5 rear wheel conversion
Marvic wheels
Rossmoto rearsets
Flat slide carbs
Scott steering damper
2WJ plastics

At which point I will be looking for a streetable bike, and this one will be a track only deal.

I would've added my list, but it's kind of long
just about everything above and more.

Cheers Mark.

has anyone worked out the total cost of their bike plus mods? seems to me its not worth modding a bike tot he extent some people have, might as well buy a better bike to start with....

want a faster bike? dont get an sv650, get a sports bike or a thou
what a full faired bike? why buy an sv?

maybe i just dont get it ive got a different can now, seat cowl and hamicad. but i cant see the point in going much further. i love the way the sv looks, thats one of the reasons i bought it. and its fast enough for me. if i had the money (which some people have spent) and wanted a faster bike, i wouldnt buy an sv.

dont get me wrong, i love it. but i cant see why people change it until its almost completly a different bike.

I thought that this was a "done deal" and that Dr Rich got the award every year?

I mean, FFS, he polishes the thing daily and keeps it in an hermetically sealed display case mounted on the wall above his mantlepiece

Because in the same why people wear different clothes and make a statement about themselves. The bike says something about the sort of person you are.
For example this is my bike:
SV650s
And my mates bike:
SV650N

Both the same bike.. apart from ones faired and ones not. Even the same colour but. Each is very different, and those are old pic's they have changed even more since then.
They are different because your different, you make the choice not to bother because you want a bigger bike in the future. Me I see me having it always, it was not always thought like that, but I do now. Their will me more bikes, but the SV will always be there. Slowly changing, becoming more unique.

Why do people mod bikes? It's fun! I've put probably a grand's worth of bits on mine, give or take (lots of it was Ebay, so I didn't keep track) and obviously I could have got a much newer bike for £3500 instead of £2500, but I've always enjoyed tinkering with it, and it's nice to have something unique as well.

Plus, for me the SV's the right bike just now- it's the right shape for me, it's narrow and fairly light, fairly practical, neither too fast or too slow (OK, possibly too fast) and most of all, cheap. There's very few modern bikes that interest me as much, and most of those are either out of my range or impractical for my purposes. The SV gave me the best combination of price, performance, practicality and looks IMHO, and so it's the best basis for me to use as a fun project as well as a working bike.

When I come to sell it, if I ever do, I've still got all the stock bits It'll go back to standard and the bits will go in "For Sale"
