What is strange is that Honda had a better bike to use as a basis for a tribute, one that was already well down the retro path; the CB1100EX. They, themselves, even call it a Modern Classic. I wonder if the bike's picture I posted was a bored intern's Photoshop doodle.

I think that you could be right about the photoshop. Honda can do a far better job of "Retro" than that. A friend of mine has just bought one of these, which, again was a tribute to the original 750. The NC36 was only produced in 1998. They certainly hold their money too.

When I look at it, it looks like all the other "transformer" type nakeds.

Agreed. Still the knock on effect of the good sales that the MT07 had a few years ago and everyone still jumping on that bandwagon.

One of these caught my eye when browsing at Fraser's in Gloucester yesterday. They look really nice in the lflesh. Very well proportioned and solid looking.

Whoever is responsible for the separate front brake master cylinder reservoir on the Z900RS needs a good talking to.
Also the front of the engine with the oil filter positioning and header pipes off to one side is a bit messy.
Mudguards would have been nice.

Triumph have made a lot of dosh over the last few years making bikes that hark back to their old lineup. As have Royal Enfield with their new models, although to be fair they never really stopped making the simple plodders they've been making since the 1940's...

Royal Enfield have upped their game, the Himalayan and the 650 twins are all rather good.

Itchy Boots YouTube channel worth a look.
