Default Fuel filler cap..which way does it open on your bike

Front to back or back to front?

Ok, here's the story. A popular mod on the GS is to turn the fuel filler cap around (pos requires a bit of a trim so not entirely trivial) as it normally opens with the hinge at the back, making it tricky to fill sometimes or prop ones tankbag up with.

Turned around, the hinge is on the front so it open away from you...if you see what I mean.

Now a story as to why this is is that in the 'good old days' early flip up caps came open during accidents getting in the way of one's Jenny Taylor in the event of a crash . With the flap flipping up towards you, your John Thomas would shut said flap back down as you coasted over it.

So my question is....is flipping open towards the rider (i.e. the harder way to fill) the norm?

Mine has a seven bolt fitting with one dead centre at the front so it can't be turned about. I'm not fussed which way it goes really.

However, Suzuki must have made a change at some point. This one on ebay has just 4 and could be altered easily.

On my SV the hinge of the fuel filler cap is at the back. Doesn't bother me
too much as I never fill up sitting on the bike.

To be honest I never gave it a second thought on the SV but at once it seemed a fiddle on the GS, must be some feature of the overall ergonomics.

So SV opens same way...maybe there's something in the story, or maybe it deflects fuel away from you if it pops open or something (or you leave it open a bit )

Mine opens towards me - but I have to ask Prof, how do you fill the bike up without sitting on it? I couldn't get enough petrol into it with it on it's side stand.

Still don't have an issue issue with the hinge though, it's quite easy.
