can confirm the gasket is reusable but needs care not to damage it when lifting off the cover. I used a feeler gauge to separate it away where it was a bit stuck......

Now that is really useful information. Well done.

As far as cracking the cover off for checking clearances, do I need a replacement gasket or is it a re-useable rubber gasket?
Also I should be able to depress the cam chain and check whether it's loose while the cover is off right?

Cheers.
Is there any chance you can get a second set of ears to listen to it.I'm fortunate that my Motorcycle MOT guy is also an ex Motorcycle racer so he knows his stuff.

Could save you a lot of time trying to find the fault.

I had the same noise as the OP had in their video so thought I would just post on here. Mine didn't stop making the noise when the motor warmed up and I thought it was probably the CCT. Took the heads off and this is how lose the front cam chain is.

Just need to work out what the cause is now. Also is it normal for the timing marks to be ever so slightly off? The engine runs fine apart from the rattle but the timing marks seem just slightly off from what the Haynes manual depicts
The rear timing marks seem to do similar.

If the cam chain is stretched would that affect the timing? They tell you to count 16 rollers between "2" on the inlet cam (vertical) and 3 mark on the exhaust, but 16 rollers distance would vary depending on chain wear (?)

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/80...age=162#manual

I've not done it so I don't know how accurate this is.

Yeah I need to check the length I guess. There are 16 pins between the marks but the IF and no 2 arrows the manual say should be level with the cylinder head seem to be pointed up slightly.

Ok so the CCT seems to be ok though it is fully extended and not tensioning the chain enough. I figure at this point it's either the chain worn or the tensioner blade that is worn. I can't find any length to measure the cam chain wear does anyone know what that would be?

I looked in the SV650AL7 service manual and the only cam chain spec is the 16 rollers, there's nothing about length. It would seem your issue is tensioner related if it's max'd out. How many miles has the bike done?
In this video, at the 4min38 secs point, the guy pushes down on his curvy's camchain and it looks much tighter than yours:
