Engine problems - clutch?

First off, it's not my SV but wasn't a section for this for other bikes that would get looked at. Sorry if it's annoyed..

Riding home today on a KTM 690SM (2008 with around 18k miles.)

Steadily riding at 60mph in 6th gear, no gear changes were made for quite sometime then the gearing seem to of slipped so I pulled in the clutch and downshifted to try and re-engage, but it wasn't having it. So I rolled to a stop with the clutch in (2k rpm) killed the engine, went to put it into neutral and found the clutch lever would not be pulled in (high pressured) so I manually changed into neutral, started the engine and it had no trouble ticking over at all. Tried to budge the clutch until it gave some play, started the engine and again no problems ticking over at all until I pulled in the clutch this then sounded like something had came lose inside the engine and then I again switched off. I believe it may be the clutch plate/ bearing, but I wouldn't of thought it would happen travelling for a period of time without changing any gears. Any ideas?
