Bye Bye SV to Sprint 1050 ST
Well I know I haven't been here long but today I put down my SV against a Triumph Sprint ST 1050. They offered me £700 for her which I'm happy about as I only paid £500, and spent a couple of hundred getting her fixed up, so I've made my money back. The SV650s Curvy was a fantastic first (legal) bike. Lots of power and easy to throw around = lots of fun. I was considering buying the 1000s fully faired pointy as they look mean but once I saw the Sprint I couldn't resist. It will take me some time to adjust to the looks - from the side and rear they look fantastic, but the front will take more! Nevertheless something a little more bigger, powerfull, and more modern is what I needed as I intend on doing a little continental touring to Germany to to see an old friend (maybe via the Nurburgring) later this year, something I couldn't dream of doing on an SV.
So farewell, I guess. It's been short but sweet. I'll keep poking my nose in from time to time to see how you are all getting on and maybe a few ride outs. Anyone else on here gone from Sv to Sprint? Kind Regards Ryan Last edited by jagryan85; 05-02-17 at 08:32 PM. |

Re: Bye Bye SV to Sprint 1050 ST
I went from a SV1000 to a Sprint ST, and I know a couple of other guys on here have had a Sprint as well. They are a great bike, especially for the sort of touring you are looking to do. The best mod you can do is to add a set of Trident pipes...

Trident pipes on order I also downloaded the TuneECU software and ordered the obd cable so i can put a better map straight onto the ECU I've been doing my homework for once!

Good man. The Trident pipes can be a bit of a pig to fit, I used a luggage strap around the bodywork to pull them in tight when refitting the plate hanger bracket. Just take your time and you will be fine. They give the bike a real bark once you get over about 7k

Re: Bye Bye SV to Sprint 1050 ST
Good info cheers Matt. Can you tell me what it was like going from the sv650S to the sv1000S? I really wanted a 1000S. And again what was it like going from the 1000S to the ST1050?

I am thinking of doing the same thing. Blue curvy to Blue sprint 1050. Totally agree with you about the front end, but that rear.....
Any change you could give me some details about your SV so I can compare mine.? Don't know if to part ex or sell privately yet. Left me know what you think of the difference in power too? I love the engine braking on the Sv, rarely need the brake lever. Lol |

Re: Bye Bye SV to Sprint 1050 ST
Well the SV is 16 years old, had light surface scratching in places and needed some TLC but after a good polish and wax it really brought it up well. She was what i called a 'distant bird', looked good from far away but as it got closer it started to show. Much like the girl's from Birkenhead. I put new pads and tyres on her and a new battery, good secondhand screen, plus fixed up the bent rear light bracket and changed the hacked tail tidy to standard form and a fresh mot in november. Bought her for £500 spent £200 and got £700 in p/x so got back what I put into her. I think on a private sale I might of hit 4 figures for her but I didn't have time or want the hassle of waiting for a sale so had to p/x.
I don't pick up the ST til Saturday and only got to test it out in a warehouse to check it was ok so I have not actually ridden it properly yet but I know what you mean about the SV's engine braking haha got to keep reminding myself to slightly pull on the brake lever for the brake lights as I've had a few people nearly run into the back of me because of its good engine braking! Re: Bye Bye SV to Sprint 1050 ST
Ah cool. I bought my Sv just over a year ago for 1000 and I've probably spent almost that much again on it this year. Lol mainly consumables though tyres, brakes etc.
Hope the weather is good on Saturday for you. |

That's a nice looking bike. I'd have it too.

My 650 with twin high level carbon cans sounded like a Spitfire. The thou with Remus pipes sounded like a Lancaster Bomber. The Sprint with Trident pipes was like an Apache helicopter.
