+1 Worth checking anyway as it finds it way up there in small amounts over time and worth the occaisional clean out.

Re: 2005 oil loss with slight scratchy noise rear cyl.
I can remember an old thread on here where an owner had his bike deliberately knocked over by scumb4gs and lay on its side for a while ( overnight ? ) got so much oil in one of the cylinders the bike suffered hydraulic lock. That oil may have gone through breather into air box and through open inlet valve ( or maybe oozed past the piston rings ).

Re: 2005 oil loss with slight scratchy noise rear cyl.
Perhaps, although the bike was only on it's side for say a minute or so. All the riding around for the next few days seemed normal I think until I arrived home again after the long haul back. Thanks everyone for your input. I will explore all the suggested possibilities. Need to go and lube and tighten the chain now. Much obliged to you all.

Re: 2005 oil loss with slight scratchy noise rear cyl.
Have you changed the oil and filter since? That's probably the first thing I'd do, especially if it's anywhere near the mileage that would need it anyway.

Yes, an oil change is due now anyway - 5000 Ks since last one. Was on my "to do" list. Thanks.
