Default 5G network

Although I don't own a smartphone I follow the technology and this BBC test of the 5G network was interesting and amusing.

It was amusing because they quickly hit their data cap. The speed sounds great if you can afford it and you live in the right cities. In a rural area? don't hold your breath.

I have two sims in my current phone. Both unlimited data plans, because I cannot get 4G at home from 3.

I have a VM 500/35Mb broadband service that works well and the VM sim was bundled with it, so not complaining and will drop the 3 next year when the contract that costs me finishes.

so 5G whilst it would be nice, is hardly likely to happen round here where we cannot get universal 4G!

In some ways the service providers should fix the not spots before growing new services. Or better still role out in the not spots first.

While a large percentage of the UK landmass is still on GPRS let alone anything faster, the whole push to rollout the 5G platform is running ahead any ban on the company who makes most of the 5G kit currently available (no prizes for guessing which Chinese company that is).

Then add the joy of the mobile operators dusting off the £1,000+ handsets people will have to pay out for to use the service, also rubbing thier hands in glee at the £x.xx a meg over allowance limit the unwary will incur on limited data contracts

I use 3 mobile 3-2-1 payg and there's no mobile signal of any description at home.
My Asus Zenfone cost £80 around three years ago.
Only use it when out and about, 4G is good enough for my needs, typically spend less than a fiver a month.
Would I pay more for 5G or buy a new phone?
Not a chance.
