At the Raven caff near Whitchurch yesterday there was the most beautiful time-warp Kawa KH500 from 1976, the last of the line. It still had the factory metal plug caps and clear plastic (now yellowed) sleeves on the brake & clutch levers. The owner showed me under the seat, too, where the original spark plug holder and factory-supplied spare plugs were sitting, with the factory service stickers on the seat base. Even the red line on the tacho was blood-red, and the tips of the speedo and tacho needles that bright 'Dyno-rod' red we all remember.

Never been repainted (the original factory 'Copper' - actually a deep red/brown metallic - was almost perfect), no re-chroming, just new tyres and a new chain. The owner said he'd found it at the back of a dealer's lockup covered in a dust sheet with 2,000 miles on the clock (it now had 5K miles up). It had been taken in part-ex back in the late 70s and never resold, because no-one wanted an "old" 2-stroke triple at that time. So it had been prepped for storage, and never emerged until just before Covid.

I should have taken some pics but to be honest, no pictures could have done justice to it: it was just as they left the factory with the lightest patina of use. Made me properly wistful.

It's amazing how these bikes still turn up. I haven't been down to the Raven for ages.

There's usually an interesting bike or two, even though the coffee isn't up to much

The Thursday bike nights are worth a visit in the summer months, I went a couple of times earlier this year and there were some tasty 70s / 80s bikes to ogle.

Quiet one after last weekend's wedding: mostly pottering (and of course Arsenal vs Everton on Sunday)

The dealer finally has the cruise control module for my bike so I need to head up to Aberdeen to get it installed. It is nipply cold this morning though! Need to wrap up warm.

Gonna head up over Braemar to make the ride a bit more interesting.

Picked Hugh up this morning from his annual visit to Spannerman, formerly of this parish. This year, as well as the usual service and MoT, I had Stewart replace the tired tyres with Avon Spirits, replace the basic rear shocks with Hagon Nitros, the even more basic front springs with Hagon Progressives, EBC HH pads all round and a new chain n sprockets (one extra tooth on the back).

It's a different bike! It pulls better with the ever so slightly reduced gearing, handles 10 times better, and drops into corners instead of being manhandled. He's still no sportsbike but the fun factor is now greatly improved. I'm so pleased I decided to keep him a while longer and go for the upgrades.

There a so many grumbles on the Trumpet forums about the stock tyres and suspension but I shrugged them off before now. With the updates now fitted I can see exactly what they mean!
