Tyre route planning

I have been using Tyre for years, I plan the route on google maps, open tyre, select import from website, put the url of the map I created in and a route is made.

Since google maps has been updated this no longer works, Tyre complains the link contains no useful information.

Anyone else had the same problem?

I'm sure Bibio was complaining of the same thing a couple of weeks back.

as chucca said i found this out a few weeks ago. thankfully tyre still works internally with the old mapping so i'm using that instead. just as good.

i dont. you cant drop gmaps into tyre any more

i just use the mapping provided in tyre.

Argh, that sucks. It takes a lot longer and I always end up putting waypoints in the wrong places.

Genuine, honest question chaps... what do you prefer about Tyre to MotoGoLoco Maps?

What do we need to tweak on there to make it stronger/better/faster/stronger than Tyre?

Really sorry James but I completely forgot about Motogoloco, I looked at it when you first launched it but I am lazy so continued using tyre as it's what I know.

Just planned a route, the one thing I would say I preferred about tyre and google maps is when you put import the map into tyre it gives you loads of waypoints rather than just the the ones you manually add, as my tomtom always tries to take the shortest route (even if you ask it to take quickest) having the extra waypoints was handy.

Your site is a lot easier to manually add waypoints than tyre is though

i dont like the motogoloco for the same reason i dont like the new gmaps and that is, it looks like a kid has drawn the route line with a crayon and the screen is bloated and cluttered.

i have recently taken the GM route you posted and then dropped it into TYRE as i wanted to reconfigure the route.

tyre has some nifty functions that i personally cant live without (i will be mega pizzed when tyre dont work with gmaps).

1. drag and drop route alteration with the option to save with a waypoint name i type.
2. manual renaming of waypoints is very very simple.
3. the list of waypoints is not cluttered.
4. auto fill of the route with more waypoints. this function is simply superb due to the problems with spaznavs deciding what route it thinks you should take. so adding lets say 80 waypoints to a 300 mile route will keep you on the route that you chose.

i dont know about other people but i rename my waypoints in order of what they are. i will for instance place a waypoint at a garage for a fuel stop so i know exactly where it is and to remind me to fill up there. next up is lunch/dinner/coffee stops are done the same way as the fuel stops so i dont have to go hunting for somewhere when i get to the destination. i usually make my breaks at a garage or a cafe. the rest of the waypoints are named just that so i know that they are of no importance. my garmin shows the name of the upcoming waypoint on the top bar so when i glance at it i know its time to stop or carry on.

my tyre list would look something like
01.Start
02.Waypoint
03.Waypoint
04.Waypoint
05.Break-Fletchers ''or name of cafe i'm visiting''
06.waypoint
08.Fuel
09.Waypoint
10.End

so on and so on. i do not use the name of roads. if there is an interesting landmark/view i want to see near on my route i will make a detour and mark the waypoint Landmark-Waterfall for instance.

now i personally think that what you and your team have done with the motogoloco route planner is fantastic but you did ask why i think tyre is better... lol
