Default Autonomous Vehicles

What's your take on autonomous vehicles, a real possibility or another gimmick and car companies wasting money?
why not put all the money into researching renewable energy for vehicles?

Does this mean I'll be able to drive down the pub, get blotto and let the motor take me home?

I see this as the one unassailable virtue of a self driving motor.

Ah you see autonomous cars are a conundrum, would it be ok to get p*ssed and get your car to pick you up from the pub and take you home? Or would the inbred bunch of hi viz wearers from Brussels still call that dangerous? Also would they invent autonomous petrol pumps? If so shopping would be ace, the wife could feck off in the car get dropped off, the car would trundle off to the pumps to top up, go back pick her up and bring her home.

But don't know whether it would catch on?

I suspect it's just a way for manufactures to show who swings the bigger cod piece when it comes to tech' know how!

But who knows one day........one day?

Edit: Damn you Sid you beat me to it!

That would be the case. You would need somebody of 'good mind' to be in charge of the vehicle!

You could put MORE money into renewable energy vehicles but theres a lot o it there already and you do get diminsihing returns.

Theres only so many crackpot schemes and dead ends you can fund.

Cruise control...
Automatic braking...
Distance control...
Ability to keep within the lines...

All already exist... fully Autonomous Vehicles are simply the next step.
