Default K4 SV1000 - GSXR front end

Hi guys,

Time to let this go, I want something else.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143970237672

Open to sensible offers, but won't be giving it away as it's a unique beast. No biggy if I need to keep it, I'll just make room for the new steed and keep this for my son

That was quick, well done - it was a looker

Out of interest was the gsxr conversion a notable improvement? I'd always heard the though forks weren't bad.

Hi Dave

Hard to say - the bike only had 7500 miles on it when I made the change. Did it mainly for cosmetic reasons if I'm honest. Can't say the handling or brakes were night and day. Certainly seemed to hold a line better, but then I am no suspension expert. The SV1000 K4 forks are the better of the two versions that came on the SV1000 (they changed from 05) I believe the valving is better on the earlier forks. I've dropped a message to a knowledgeable guy I know to confirm that.

Anyway, I'm sure with correctly set up forks, there's absolutely nohthing in it for day to day riding. But I'm sure the GSXR forks come to life on track where it counts.

I didn't spend a god awful amount on the conversion, I made various bits back by selling the GSXR front wheel and tyre, etc etc. So I'd recommend it, it's dead easy, especially on an S!

Cheers, it does look good. I wonder if you changed the steering angle much(steeper) in doing it. I've just been offered an offensively cheap scrappy sv1000 and when I've ridden them I have noticed the extra length (which you get with any bike after riding the 650)...just got my brain ticking

Don't think anything changed as the offset, fork length (etc) all remained the same from memory. Either that or the offset was so minor that it was here nor there. It tipped in nicely, held a line and felt more compliant. This is in contrast to the GSXR1000 forks I had on (which admittedly looked a lot cooler as they're gold with black stanchions) that was circa 30mm shorter, it was so frighteningly quick at tipping in that I couldn't bear to ride it, so I got rid of that and bought the 600/750 shocks. Night and day difference between the two!

In fact, here you go:

SV Offset
Naked: 25mm
S: 30mm
SV Fork length
735mm

GSXR forks
2006+ 600
732mm length gold/chrome leg
310mm rotors
900 springs
30mm offset, 53mm lower clamp
Left offset ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

2006+ 750
732mm legnth black/bronze leg
310mm rotors
1000 springs
30mm offset, 53mm lower clamp
Left offset ignition top clamp, 28mm bore

So 2mm off the length, everything else the same (for the S) the N is showing less offset, but as the S isn't a real **** pursing bike to ride, the +5mm means nothing. The forks are slightly softer on the 600 - but that suited me as I don't like a rock hard track weapon anyway, I ride on the road and have a zillion speed bumps to contend with...London in a nutshell.

Interesting - cheers for that! I'd trust the GSXR more than the SV hardware anyway even if fairly similar on paper
