Default Tyre Pressures

Hi

Just wondering the more people I talk to, the more different the answers are.. What is the ideal pressure for my bike tyres.

At the moment I am running Avons on the standard rims!

I ride motorways everyday and very rarely take a pillion. (although I do carry a little extra weight (Like a few stones extra weight)) Not that that really matters!

Any suggestions?

do a search on here for tyres and pressures, If you are confused now then you will pull your hair out afterwards.

Different tyres and bikes need different pressures but the only correct pressure is the one that works for you.

I personally run 33/36 on a 650 and 34/ 36 on my 1000, it works for me as a bloater :P

thanks

I will give it a go... I am just really confused... There seems to be no hard and fast rule about it.

Too soft and you get flat wheel wear and too hard and you bounce high over stuff and get lower braking grip.

I hear Avons are recommended to be way higher... A PM to Randy O might be an idea, or Rictus01.

Just to clear this up.. Yeah it seems you need to keep them quite a lot higher.

This is what RandyO told me.....

Avon recommends 36front and 42rear on their website for the SV650

I questioned the high pressures when I started to run the avons so I e-mailed them, the response explained the difference in the carcass design, they also said that for every 2psi you drop expect to loose 10% of your tread life

So there we have it.... 36/42. or loose tread life.

Hum.. I changed my tyre pressures last night and now have them at 36/42.

I had to emergency stop this morning as a little kid walked infront of me travelling at 25mph. I slammed all on as he was only about a car and a half lenght in front of me... The back tyre skidded. Not sure why.. I stopped so hard it could have been that I pressed too hard but it may have been the extra pressure.

Who knows. The bike does feel to react a bit better with the higher pressures.

Wonder what the score is if you have a bad accident?
Are you expected ( by insurers, police, etc.) to keep your tyres at the pressure specified by the manufacturer of the bike or the tyres?
F33, R36, Diablos BTW.

Who knows... I was talking to a mate at work who rides an R6. He said 42 was pretty high.. Think I will keep them there and just break a little less on the backs and see how that goes.. I like the feel of the bike on that pressure so we will see if I have any other issue.

And I really would like to keep the tyres as long as possible and 2 psi for 10% is pretty drastic.
