Default Storms

Couple of thunderstorms here yesterday, one in the afternoon and a big one during the evening that lasted about four or five hours.

The one in the evening was pretty spectacular, with thunder grumbling and banging pretty much without a pause. There was so much lightning that it looked like the continuous flickering of some faulty giant neon tube light.

We had one too or maybe the same one rumbled over our way. A lot of rain and 4-5 hours of lightning. Spectacular with the thunder reverberating around the valley.

Listened to a mate last friday and instead of nipping out for a wee hours ride somewhere localish like I suggested (cos I had seen the weather was going to change) we were out all evening away north and got an absolute doing from the weather. Torrential rain, forked lightning, floods, road closures, tourists doing 25mph, aquaplaning. Fkn 'mare. Took my boots a week to dry out. My riding jeans doubled in weight. Good test for a new "casual" w/proof jacket...which certainly isn't.

Always good to be in company in situ's like that. Somebody else as poorly prepared and getting the same doing cheers you right up.

Woke early in the morning by what I thought was banging on the front door.

Took a few seconds to realise it was thunder as the lightening smashed in nearby. Checked everything this morning. Fences are in place. no holes in the roof so happy to have been snuggled up.

Good news, you'll get another one tonight.

Well, this evening's event looked like it was going to be even more fierce some than last night, but in the end it was over and done with in around an hour. Bit disappointing really.

we had lightning and thunder every 3-4 seconds for a solid 5+hrs. it went on all night but not as frequent till around 5am. i'm not exaggerating when i say a flash and bang every 3-4 seconds for a solid 5+hrs.

good news is that its bloody glorious outside now

We've had them forecast every day in Bristol for the past few days, but nothing's happened yet. Very, very humid though. Hope it does actually thunder and clear the air soon as it's getting a bit much. It's great that it's warm, but getting a bit sick of being constantly clammy.

Short one last night at 7ish, accompanied by a deluge (just after I'd watered the garden, dammit!, as it was not forecast) but not much lightning to write home about. Started just before 5 today, with quite a bit more flashing and banging, but again all over within 30 minutes but the rain was heavier and is still coming down now, albeit a bit less of a monsoon compared to earlier. Looked up and down the river that our road had become at the height of the downpour and everyone's guttering was overflowing at the same time.

Due for a lot more over the next two days but thankfully it should be well under the low 30's temperatures we've been suffering with over the last few days. Working from home in that heat is hell, even if like me you're just sitting at a desk.
